Kos for less for students

Every day, more than 30 000 Stellenbosch University students face a simple but devastating problem — access to affordable, nutritious meals. Born in Stellenbosch, StelliesKos is tackling this challenge head-on.

Tsundzuka Mnisi (3rd year BCom Management Accounting) and David Mwangi (4th year BEng Data Engineering) created the app to connect food providers with students. This hyper-local, tech-enabled food delivery platform connects hungry students with local restaurants offering “Kos for Less” — meals priced to be accessible, often made from surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste. Through its #KOSFORNOTHING initiative, it even supports the most food-insecure students with fully subsidised vouchers, preserving their dignity while keeping them fed.

Powered by an AI-driven app and a sustainable delivery network in partnership with STROOM e-bikes, StelliesKos not only creates youth employment opportunities but also reduces carbon emissions and food waste.

At its heart, StelliesKos exemplifies what Impact Hub Cape Winelands stands for — local entrepreneurs owning local solutions. By addressing student hunger through innovation, inclusion, and community-driven business, StelliesKos is redefining what impact entrepreneurship looks like in the Cape Winelands and beyond.
